1. Why you
were looking forward to going to the ground (or not as the case may be)?
I only go
to 2 or 3 away games per season, and with the excellent home form that Ipswich
had I was thoroughly looking forward to ending that! The only worry I had was
the horrific journey to get there, particularly on New Year's Day.
2. How
easy was your journey/finding the ground/car parking?
The
journey was probably the worst part of the day. It took a good 3 hours to get
there, a real howler from the fixtures considering the date. We parked near the
train station where there was plenty of spaces, but it wasn't free.
3. What
you did before the game pub/chippy.... home fans friendly?
Went to the
pub next to the train station for away fans only (can't remember the name) and
then went to McDonalds not too far from the ground. Didn't encounter any
problems with the home fans.
4. What you thought on seeing the ground, first
impressions of away end then other sides of the ground?
I wasn't particularly impressed by the ground. Ok
it is an old ground with character, but the Cobbold lower tier had very cramped
legroom (extremely uncomfortable, and I am not too big) and the facilities
showed signs of age. The lower tier is also very open to the elements, and it
was windy and drizzling which added to the discomfort. The stands behind the
goals are relatively new, and seem much better than the one I was in. The main
stand also seems similar to the Cobbold Stand, seems to be showing signs of
severe wear and tear, it could do with a facelift.
5. Comment on the game itself, atmosphere,
stewards, pies, toilets etc..
Game itself was very poor from my point of view,
the Albion team all seemed to have New Year hangovers and we never really got
going and we lost 2-0. The atmosphere wasn't anything special to be honest but I
have seen quieter grounds. There was a lack of stewards which was astonishing
considering the away and home fans in the lower tier come in the same entrance
and can access each other at any time. Toilets were clean but on the small side,
and the concourse is very small.
6. Comment on getting away from the ground after
the game
No real problems, it just takes an age to get
home, especially as we lost!
7. Summary of overall thoughts of the day out
Rather disappointed to be honest.
Unless you live nearby and don't mind the cramped nature I wouldn't recommend
it. The chances are your team will be defeated there as well! |
