Booby Robson became Ipswich Town Manager in
1969. Led the Club to an FA Cup triumph 1978 and a UEFA Cup win in 1981. The
Club also were also Division One Championship runners up in consecutive
seasons; 1980/81 & 1981/82. Robson went on to become England Manager in 1982
and led the team to the World Cup semi finals in 1990, where they lost to
Germany on penalties. After leaving England enjoyed further managerial
success at PSV Eindhoven, FC Porto and Barcelona, as well as a spell as
manager of Newcastle United. He was knighted in 2002. The statue was
unveiled in July 2002. |
