Alf Ramsey ended his playing career at
Tottenham Hotspur and became Ipswich Town manager in 1955. He lead the
Portman Road side to the Division Tow Championship in 1960 and in an
incredible feat took them onto to become the First Division Champions a year
later. He became manager of the England national side in 1963 and led them
to the winning of the World Cup in 1966. He was knighted for his services to
football in 1967 and became Sir Alf Ramsey. In 1977 he became the first
knight ever to manage a football club, when he had a short spell as manager
of Birmingham City. He remains as England's most successful manager to date.
He passed away in 1999, aged 79. |
