'The Cottage' According to
the 'Football Grounds Of Great Britain By Simon Inglis, before the ground
was built, there stood the original Craven Cottage, which burnt down in
1888. Sited roughly where the centre circle of the current pitch lies now,
it was originally built in 1780, by the sixth Baron Craven. At one time was
also occupied by author Edward Bulwer-Lytton, who wrote 'The Last Days Of
Pompeii'. The present cottage was built by Archibald Leitch in around 1905
and it originally housed the dressing rooms as well as the Board Room.
