Tranmere Rovers
Directions
From M6/M56 join the M53 and exit at Junction 4 and take the B5151
Mount Road from the fourth exit of the roundabout (the ground is signposted from here).
After two and a half miles when Mount Road becomes Storeton Road, turn right into Prenton
Road West and the ground will be visible on the right hand side.
Sue Warwick adds; 'An easier route to the ground is to
leave the M53 at Junction 3 and take the A552 Woodchurch Road towards
Birkenhead. You will pass a Sainsburys and then as you reach the Half Way
House pub turn right at the traffic lights onto the B5151 Mount Road. Take
the first left for the ground'.
There is a car park at
the ground, otherwise, street parking, but beware that there is a strict local residents
parking scheme in operation around the ground.
Pubs
Jim Ennis informs me; 'The Prenton Park Hotel, which is situated about 20 yards
away from the visiting supporters turnstiles, is popular with away fans.
Otherwise alcohol is available in the away end'.
There are also a number of other pubs in walking distance of the ground.
The Mersey Clipper, behind the Main Stand, and The Sportsmans Arms on Prenton Road East
are recommended for away fans. A little further away is the Swan Pub on
Woodchurch Road, Prenton, which is a good twenty minute walk
away from the
ground. Away fans are welcome and it has the added advantage of having 96
car parking spaces available, which are either free or have a small charge
levied that can be redeemed against a drink at the bar. Please note that alcohol is
not sold inside the
ground.
All fans please note, it is a criminal offence to drink alcohol on
the streets of Birkenhead, you may find yourself being arrested if you do.
By Train
The closest railway stations are Rock Ferry
and Birkenhead Central, both served by Liverpool Lime St. Both
stations are a fair walk from the ground. (15-20 minutes). Philip Jackman
provides directions from Rock Ferry station; 'Upon
leaving Rock Ferry turn right and walk up the road for a fair distance
until you reach a roundabout. At the roundabout, turn right again and walk
straight up until you are close to the Sportsman pub. Then turn left
down Everest Road and walk straight down to the bottom where you will be
standing opposite the turnstiles for the Cowshed Stand'.
Craig Skyrme informs me; 'If you get off the train
instead at Hamilton Square, there is
a football bus laid on
just outside the station. It
runs about every 10-15 minutes and if you show
your train ticket you can get aboard for free of charge,
otherwise it costs 50p.
