Usually a
London trip is held three or four times a season, however
this season there is one London team,
Brentford, in League
One, so this for us was a big day out.
15 lads met up at Shipley station, making the short journey over to
Leeds, where we connected to the train heading for
Kings Cross. Once arriving in London as usual we
headed for the local attractions, Soho, Covent Garden etc...
After visiting a number of rather expensive pubs around the capital,
we caught the tube to South Ealing, the closest tube
station to Griffin Park, but this is still a taxi/bus
ride away. Apparently its a 15/20 minute walk, which
is 15/20 minutes to long for a load of fat northerners! There are not
many pubs down Ealing Road, but we did stop at one called 'Roddys Bar',
which was two minutes walk from the tube
station. In here it was very pleasant and we watched
football on Sky.
As usual it was raining but we were clever enough to get under cover in the
seating section of the away end. The view is great for 90% of the pitch,
but some plastic sheeting was up which restricted the
view to one goal. If sat in the wrong seat with a big
away following, certain seats you could not see hardly
anything of the goal in front of the standing away fans! Be warned!
We were merry and singing for the whole 90 minutes, we
were banging on the metal sheeting and we actually won
the game 2-1, which was a great result so you can
imagine the joy and behaviour!! The stewards however were
fantastic, letting us do pretty much whatever we liked within reason.
After the game we went to the 'Royal Princess' one of the 4 pubs on
either corner of the ground. In here it was very
friendly, lots of City fans and disappointed
Brentford fans sharing a drink before having to leave for the
wives!
All in all we had a very good day, the people were friendly and if you can
get passed the big headed arrogant London Police, you should enjoy your
day out. |
