I It was a bank holiday and so
me and 2 friends decided on making the trip down to Bournemouth following the
dons. Only one of us is actually an MK Dons fan but it makes for an excuse to go
to another ground as I continue my quest to go to all 92 grounds. Reluctantly an
opportunity to go to Bournemouth's ground came from MK Dons who I find difficult
to accept as a football club and not a franchise!
We all lived in Hemel Hempstead (Hertfordshire) and it meant an early start,
getting the train to MK and then getting an early morning subway roll we made
our way to the meeting point and got on the coach and started the journey south.
The coach pricing was good as a mere £12 was all
it cost for the journey, all though I'm not sure about the driver on the way
back he seemed a little wayward with his steering! But this all added to the
enjoyment for most. The ticket was very good too although myself being under 16
it only cost £6 whereas adults were £16 still not too shabby. Also when
purchasing the ticket at the ticket office window it was a very good prompt
service.
When arriving at the ground there did not seem to be any suitable places for a
away supporters coach to park and let the fans off safely as the ground is
situated directly onto a busy main road. But after a lot of grumbling and
hesitation on the stewards part we were let off and into the warm sun. Behind
the back of the open end there is a large car park but this also acts as parking
space for visitors to the park which is directly next to the ground. With an
hour to spare the park provides a good place to relax or play football, but its
advised to bring a ball as us not knowing of the park purchased one from the
club shop! The club shop is a large one with a good range of merchandise, also
there is a collectors corner which has a wide range of old programmes and
badges. Before making our way into the ground I bought a program at the usual
£2.50 which has good content and worth the money. When inside the ground the
three stands are of a good smart standard and when they have the open end filled
it will be a very nice ground. One quibble was the way the away section was
restricted to one section of seats whereas it would have been much better if we
were able to spread out. The stewards were very friendly although the
restrictions on where we could sit lowers my respect for them. The toilets were
pretty respectable and the area leading to the seating was a large area with
plenty of room for queuing up for the infamous balti pies and plenty of room for
you to stand and chat eat etc. |
