Reebok Stadium - Bolton Wanderers FC
Saturday 14th September 2002
V Liverpool, Premier League, 3pm
By Brian Darcy

I was looking forward to my first visit to the Reebok Stadium, I hadn't been before, as I missed the match last season as I was on holiday. I was excited about visiting a new stadium and not having to go to Burnden Park, which used to be intimidating. Finding the ground was easy enough, I got the train from Liverpool Lime Street to Horwich Parkway, which was right by the ground and wasn't a problem in finding it.

I got to the ground at about 2pm and went straight in the ground where Bolton had their own TV channel on, which is a good idea. Also for a Liverpool fan I enjoyed watching highlights of Bolton's win over Man United the previous match. My first impression of the stadium was excellent, a great view from the outside and inside. For some reason the ticket (in the upper tier) had impaired view on it but it was a perfect view and 2nd only to the Millennium Stadium at grounds I've been to. The home stands looked good as well as the away end and the good thing about it is it's balanced properly and all the stands are of the same size. A thing which is always makes a ground look good.

The game itself was a cracker, a bit of a dull first half in terms of goalmouth action but the Liverpool fans behind the goal (who had all the upper tier) were loud and having a go at the referee big time. Baros scored on the stroke of half time. The 2nd half really livened up and it was a great game, Bolton equalised and then Liverpool took the lead again. Then Bolton equalised again with a couple of minutes left through Campo. A minute later Heskey scored, cue bedlam in the away end and that was it.

It was a good match and an enjoyable day but an intimidating atmosphere in the ground with both fans goading each other all the way through. 7) After Liverpool scored the winner, the Bolton fans in the corner were really having ago and you worried about getting out safely as you sensed it was going to go off outside. However, we left straight after the final whistle and there wasn't really any problems.
