Four
of us travelled up for the game at Villa Park on Oct 21/10/06 to watch the
Spurs play. Being Welsh Spurs, we had a nice journey up, leaving at 09.00am
arriving just after 11.00am. rather than the usual 06.30am start by train,
for the 'home' games at the Lane! The Villa have always conjured up good
games against Spurs in the past and under Martin O'Neil (should have come to
Tottenham) they were on the up and we were seeking our first away win and
goal of the season!!
The car parking facilities were great, waste land, fenced and supervised cost only a £5 from 11.00am to 17.30pm and was a stones throw from the Cap and Gown pub where we made ourselves busy with the local nectar (driver excluded of course). With the ground in sight of the pub, we were absolutely chuffed to be charged only £2 for the privilege of being in an 'away' bar. only drawback being that the pub did not have food, however there are various burger bars and chippy vans around the area, and you are permitted to leave the pub to purchase the food of your choice and can then eat your lunch in peace in the pub. The burger bar across the road on the right hand side did a great burger + chips for a reasonable £3.50. There is also a large beer garden at the rear of the pub where the Yid Army could sing to their hearts content. Upon entering the ground (150 yards away) we were met by what I can only say to be the most reasonable and sensible stewarding I have ever seen. We were treated as football supporters and could actually have a laugh and a joke with the stewards and police!! During an entertaining game (in which villa scored our first away goal, and missed a penalty cheers angel) and Barry scored a belter, we were also allowed to celebrate our goal by the stewards without the threat of being thrown out, well done Villa stewards. The Villa Park was as good for atmosphere as I imagined it would be. The short walk to the
car park after the game was trouble free and within half an hour we were
sailing down the motorway towards Wales. An all round great day out, fair
result and decent welcome from the Villains! Definitely will return next
season. |
